Enjoy Bucharest on bikes! (How to rent I'Velo bikes)

How to rent an I'Velo Bike

If you've never rented I'Velo bikes before it might seem a bit complicated, but it's really not.

In order to rent an I'Velo bike you just have to do these 3 things:

1. Go get your card

Go to a center such as the one on No 21, Ion Bogdan Street (near Piata Romana and Stefan Cel Mare Metro Station), or one of the I’Velo Relax rental centers located at the entrence of Herastrau Park (near Aviatorilor metro station) or Tineretului Park (near Tineretului metro station) - though the last two may be more crowded.

You should have an ID with you and the sum of money that fits your needs (you need to rent a bike just 1 day - 10 lei, up to 1 month - 35 lei, up to 1 year - 100 lei). You'll fill a form, pay for the chosen subscribtion time, and receive your card.

2. Use your card to get the bike

Go to any bikes point and check to see which one will be best for you - it would be good to check for example the height and steadiness of the sadle, maybe check the horn and the front and back lights to be working as well - though they always do.

After you decided on the number of the bike you want to rent, go to the machine, bring the card close to the reader under the main screen, enter your PIN code and choose a bicycle touching the prefered number on the screen.

In a couple of seconds you'll see the position you chose starts flashing green and you have 15 seconds to pick up the bycicle.

3. Use the bike for as many 45 minute intervals as you would like

Once you've picked up the bike it would be a good idea to check your clock, so that you will be able to see whenever you want to how many more minutes of the renting interval you have left (out of 45 minutes).

You can bring the bike back to the same point or leave it at any of the other 9 points in central and north of Bucharest. The points are nicely placed so that you can take a stroll with the bike on the special tracks from Arch of Triumph (near the Village Museum), to Victoriei, and then on Calea Victoriei all the way down to the Old City Center.

Even if your pace is slow you will still have enough time in those 45 minutes to go from Universitate for example to the Arch of Triumph. You then can rest for 15 minutes or visit the Herastrau park or the Village Museum, and after a 15 minutes pause the system will allow you to rent a bike again.

Whenever returning a bike be sure to position it correctly so that it's safely locked, and you can also use the card again on the machine just to check if you've accumulated any aditional costs.

Water could also come in useful
